cold day

since we are spending a week at Mom's and Dominic is out of school and i am helping him keep up with his school work. The note for today stated that the children's social studies lesson for the week would focus on peru.

i dont know about you , but im no expert on peru. so after the lesson we took a field trip to Worlds Window in downtown Cedar Falls to see what kind of crafts and arts the peruvian people produce. we came out with a small clay whistle to take for show and tell next week.

we then decided that it was the perfect weather for a latte (or hot cocoa) and a friendly game of Uno, i lost.

and for the record...its really cold.

Christmas, Christmas Time is Here...

Dominic spent quite a bit of time singing the Alvin and the Chipmunks versions of Christmas songs on Saturday as we decked the halls and whatnot.

This year Dominic was able to climb up on the arm of the coach and put the angel on the tree on his own (Mom was hiding behind the tree ready to catch him in case he lost his balance though).

Here's some links from Christmas' past with D.

Construction D. (or Take The Boy to Work Day)

D. got to go to work with me on Saturday. I covered the Farmer's Mkt., the Heritage Trail and the KDH groundbreaking, where D. got to get up close to a bulldozer. He's been telling Monica all about his "adventures".

D strummed my guitar this morning and said, "Dad, when I grow up I'm gonna be a rock star. A rock star about Jesus. And I'm gonna have spiky hair."

Big Boy Bike

Dominic was told that if he saved up half the money needed for a big boy bike, then we would help him buy it. After months of saving all his nickels, dimes, and dollars (including five $1 coins) Dominic had enough for a little green bike with training wheels. We took him up to a parking lot at Clifty Falls State Park and he took to riding pretty quickly.
He did bag out a couple of times, but he got back up and started riding again after both falls.

Portraits

Dominic sat for a couple shots while waiting for Mom and Baka to get ready for their group photo.

bored? BAH, not us

the more snow days we are faced with, the more creative he becomes.

i knit this green scarf for Dominic. when he saw it he was so happy to have his own green scarf, he put it on right away checked his reflection in the mirror and immediately decided it was missing something "mom, i want to sew a design" so i cut him a D, "no, like a picture"

"a star?" i asked "ooh, yeah"

so i cut him a star and he sewed it on.

Tea

Mom teaches Dominic how to make instant tea ( a family favorite on Dad's side of the family). Dad's reaction was, "Dominic, you make the best tea I've ever had."
